Re-Storying Systems

When the Old Stories Stop Working

We are living in a time of profound disorientation. Confusion, overwhelm, and uncertainty run deep – not just in our personal lives, but across our culture, our politics, our economy, and our shared sense of reality.

For generations, we were guided by stories that told us who we are, what success looks like, and how to live together. These stories shaped our identities, our systems, and even our dreams. But today, those old narratives are unraveling. The stories of hierarchy, scarcity, and separation – once useful for simpler times – are failing to meet the complexity of our interconnected world.

When our guiding stories crumble, we face a choice. We can cling to outdated narratives, doubling down on systems that are already breaking under their own weight. Or we can courageously imagine new stories; stories expansive enough to hold the wholeness of who we are becoming.

Re-storying is the art of consciously rewriting our personal and collective narratives. It is a practice of honoring the wisdom of the past while expanding beyond it, creating new ways of being that invite connection, creativity, and shared thriving.

The stories we tell shape everything. It’s time to craft ones that bring us– and the systems we build – into deeper alignment with life itself. As our stories evolve, so does what becomes possible.

The Practice of Re-Storying

In Re-storying Systems, we'll explore how to listen for, identify and evolve the deep stories that shape how we perceive and respond to reality. Drawing on Spiral Dynamics, a framework for understanding how worldviews develop and evolve, you'll develop the capacity to:

  • Clearly See the Story: Learn to recognize the underlying worldview or narrative lens through which people and systems are operating.

  • Honor the Wisdom: Understand how each story emerged to meet real challenges, and appreciate both its gifts and limitations.

  • Name the Yearning: By plugging into the different intelligences (e.g. body, nature, collective), name what wants to be called forward in the collective narrative so that we can create something new that better serves the vitality of the whole.

  • Expand Your Own Story: Develop skills to evolve organically, expanding your capacity to hold more complexity, nuance, and possibility without losing the essential wisdom.

For Leaders and Humans Who Sense Something More is Possible
